Let water flow

In a meta-analysis of all significant pressures on hydromorphological processes and variables, water flow emerged as the most influential process. This seemingly trivial finding has wide consequences for rehabilitation planning. Accordingly, it will be more beneficial for hydromorphology and river biota to simply increase discharge and improve natural flow regime before any construction and restoration work. It further explains all kinds of failures of measures, when landscape architecture or gardening is applied in impoundments and river stretches of reduced flow.
