Rivers respond

Any intervention in rivers will set off a hydromorphological response following a complex trajectory of development that frequently makes it impossible to return to a previous state. The simple removal of a pressure hence does not necessarily bring back the river into its original state. Restoration should anticipate the complex dynamic changes it produces. Proper design and planning of restoration require trained fluvial morphologists with a background in geomorphology or hydraulic engineering.
