Benthic invertebrates are animals living at least for part of their lifecycles on or in the benthic substrates of rivers, lakes, transitional waters or coastal waters. [2] Common parameters used for characterization are species composition and abundance, ratio of disturbance sensitive to insensitive taxa, and diversity. [3]
